I have a project to deploy 20 Cisco 1242 access points in a School environment. They will all need to be on the same physical network. I will also be installing a cisco 4402 Wireless lan access controller. Is there a way to connect all 20 access points to a switch and configure all before actually mounting them? If any one has any suggestions i would greatly appreciate it. Thank you for your help in advance!

Certainly, With the 4402 I would run the access points in LWAPP (Lightweight Access Point Protocol) mode, they 'should'(?!) be set to this 'out of the box'. Before connecting the AP's to a switch to configure - you would firstly setup the controller and assign a IP range for the access points in a DHCP pool. Upon connections the APs will receive an address off the controller and you can go ahead and make a single template for all access points (if this is your desired scenario).

Its probably a good idea to test them all before installing. But as long as they are on the correct network of the AP pool and can see the controller, you can change config easily from the wireless lan controller.
