Recommendations for Magento Hosts

I've got a Magento site on the verge of going live.  It was built on TMD Hosting in a shared hosting account and worked fine (no speed issues).  However TMD has complained about our use of server resources and has disabled the site , requesting that I either make changes to it to lighten up its load, or switch to a VPS.  This is not the first issue that I've had with TMD and am looking for alternate hosts.  My client's budget is less than $25 /month.  Can anyone make any recommendations for a host that is:

-within budget
-reliable
-not slow for a Magento install
-has a track record
-decent customer service

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Bad news. Magento is really a resource hog.
- you may take the usual optimisation tricks to lower the load and the traffic
- you may consider also features of most recent versions, which should lower the (php) resources requirement.

If your client is serious about e-commerce, not sure $25 a month is a reasonable amount. He might decide to test for 6 months a $30 to $50 solution, then reassess.

Hey Fibo,

I had the cache turned off, because the client was uploading items to the cart and checking them on the front end-- which set off the bells with TMD.  Unfortunately, the last two minor versions of Magento have broken the template or had unintended side effects.  Can you make any recommendations for the $30-50 range?

I see that you are in the US. My information about what is available there are probably not as well-informed as yours.

I Think I have heard good things about Simplehelix, but you need do make some research on forums to see if the number of complaints is a t reasonable level (there are always complaints!).
Your best  source of information is probably the forums on the Magento site, eg
- hosting partners at http://www.magentocommerce.com/partners/find/hosting-partners/ have a reputation to defend and should be courteous and efficient (I did not check their prices)
- you will find at http://www.magentocommerce.com/wiki/general/magento-web-hosting a (self-declared) list of companies which certainly need to deliver more than lip-service
- the search
http://www.google.com/search?q=site%3Awww.magentocommerce.com+cheap+hosting will give  you some forum discussions from which you'll get more info
