We are experiencing slowdown in our Microsoft Access 2000 Program / Microsoft Access 97 Data application.  Sometimes it takes a minute or longer to open a record.  This should take a few seconds.  This application has been running for about 7 years.  We've gone through the program and indices and haven't noticed anything that would cause this.  We've imported the data into a new database then archive  off about 30% of the data.  The data size was 560MB but is now 400MB.

ENIVRONMENT:  We are now using Citrix Presentation Server 4.5 with Application Isolation.
We have moved to virtual servers and a SAN during the last year.  Other Citrix applications run fine, only this particular MS Access apps.  This application is using Citrix Application Isolation and I was interested if this could be a problem area.  We have had a fair amount of changes in the last 12 months and we cannot pinpoint when this started or what may be causing the slow down.

Thank you for your assistance.

Does access have to go over a WAN link of sorts to access the database? Monitor the servers performance using a decent tool such as quest spotlight and open access, Which alerts do you get network bandwidth cpu memory etc etc.

Kind Regards
Chris

Try the application on a PC or on the console of one of your citrix servers. Does it still run slow?
Basically, is it citrix that's making the app slow or it it slow everywhere?

Chris: We have monitored the network and it seems fine.  The slowness is intermittent.  We could have only one person on the application and it can be slow though generally it is fast.

Robincm: When we ran the application without Citrix it seemed to run better.  We are still testing this part.

We improved a section of code that was causing the slowness in the system.   This improved the response time significantly.  Thank you for your comments.
