Service provider based backup & DR services?

We are a MPLS & Datacenters company based out of India. Our customers constitute the midmarket & the ent segment here and cover almost all verticals.

Currently, I am involved in a project to roll out managed backup & DR services for our enterprise customers. We will definitely want to use our datacenters and fiber networks. However, like any business, we dont intend to invest a lot of capex before the customers coming in.

The Questions:

1) What are the deliverables the customer expects from these services by default?

2) On what parameters will an enterprise customer evaluate these services? What are his current painpoints?

3) What will be the broad setup comprise of? We have been talking to EMC Avamar and the likes.

4) Any pricepoints  in terms of per TB per month?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

IMHO, the scope of what you're asking here is way beyond the ability of this medium to convey in any meaningful sense. To give you my opinion on questions 1,2, and 3, if you cannot answer these questions yourselves then I'd be seriously worried.

Question 4 is so vague and totally lacking in any background information whatsoever that cannot be answered. Your best bet would be to speak to your existing suppliers and others in your industry in your area and find out what their experiences are. Suppliers are key, price shouldn't always be the overriding factor, pay special heed to SLA contracts given your purpose.

Establish what your customers recovery time and recovery point objectives are (RTO/RPO) and then see how these fit into any business continuity plan(s) you may or may not have. From here, you'll begin to understand how much capex is required to deliver X.
