Unable to attach archive folder to Outlook

Hi experts,

I had an autoarchive running every month for a last year.
Then it was saved into pst archive files but yesterday I noticed that they disappeared.
I can still see them in a default folder but when attempting to attach them back to Outlook it says
The file c:\users\user103\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\archive1.pst is not a personal folders file.

How do I fix this? Is auto-archiving a good way to reduce a size of my mailbox? Currently my mailbox exceeded 5GB.

I appreciate your help.

The problem could be that you exceeded the maximum size of the Archive folder.
You may want to try running ScanPST.exe (in the Outlook directory <- location depends on what version of Outlook you are running) and see if it can repair the archive1.pst file.
Depending on how large your pst file is you may want to look at creating a new seperate PST.

Yes Archives are a decent method for keeping the size of your mailbox down... I prefer deleting anything prior to a specific date, but some people feel the need to keep far larger amounts of old email - so Archiving is a good method in those cases.

Thank you for reply.
What is the maximum size? If you are referring to limits on Exchange there is no limit.
