Migrate Windows server 2000 AD to Windows Server 2008 AD
We have a single domain network with windows server 2000 domain controller and three windows server 2003 member servers (exchange 2003 server, file server and application server). We are going to purchase new hardware to replace windows 2000 AD server with Windows server 2008 and I am trying to find a documentation which explain the migration procedure but no luck. Can anybody advice me the proper procedure i need to follow to success this migration.
Run DCPROMO on your 2008 server
Add it as a 2nd DC to your current domain, this will replicate all AD info to your 2008 server
Install DNS if you are using AD intergrated
Let it run for a couple days and check for any replication errors
If all is well demote your 2000 DC
