I have just purchased the full version of VISTA ULTIMATE to upgrade my Windows XP SP2 PC.

Each and everytime I attempt to install the O/S the installation freezes at "Expanding Files".
What should I try to do to fix the problem.

Can you test your hardware for errors with: http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/ ?
Memory Tests with: Memtest86
CPU Tests with: CPU Burn-in, Mersenne Prime Test & StressCPU
Hard Disk Diagnostic with: your Hard Disk Manufacturers tool. (Drive Fitness Test (IBM/Hitachi) works with most)
If evrything passes, I would try removing all of your component down to just the cpu and ram and see if that helps.

When you say remove all my components, wouldn't I need to keep the HDD, graphics card and DVD player to install vista.  If that is the case, then I wouldn't need to remove anything, because that is all that I have.  Apart from the monitor, keyboard, mouse and USB printer that is connected, I don't have anything else in relation to components.

the best we do is change all components. do you have the posibility? first do the tests? did you run some?

Did the tests all is well ... now I receive the following error (windows could not update the computer's boot configuration).

This is so frustrating.

Nope, VISTA now installed correctly although I am not sure what fixed it.

My only problem now is that my Samsung Color Laser Printer is not working.  Keeps crashing.  I have downloaded and updated the driver but still not fixed.

Apart from this ... VISTA installed perfectly.
