Do you have to supply driver's license to ISP?

Hi Experts.  A client of mine that runs a small law firm brought up a question regarding the need to give your driver license info to your ISP when setting up an account.  He stated that it was a federal law but I never heard of it.  I did several searches with Google and Bing but couldn't find anything that proved or disproved his statement.  So, I will open it up to the experts.  If you know, provide your proof.  Since I will be answering the question of a client who is a lawyer, I would like to offer some proof up besides "my dad's friend car-pooling buddy is a paralegal and they say it isn't true...."

Thanks Experts!

Great points made and I appreciate everyone's input.  I thought the client's statement seemed odd but I figured I would at least ask the group of experts on here.  10 years of IT work and never heard of this but with some of the new Homeland Security policies being put in place, I figured I would throw it out there.

I did contact the client to ask him additional questions relating to this and come to find out, a satellite ISP salesman had mentioned this requirement to him.  The client will contact the salesman to find out where this requirement came from but I told him there was no known rule about this.  Too bad....  I was hoping to have discovered some new regulation that wasn't widely known.  Instead, it seems some ISP has an @ss backwards customer policy.  Bummer!

Thanks again guys!

You can contribute points if you wish. I was on a bit of haitus from EE and am in the middle of rethinking things. So I was pleased to provide useful information to you, and I leave it to you if you wish to provide points. Many thanks, .. Thinkpads_User
