Word 2003 Spell Check Broken

I have a Laptop with office 2003. The spell check will find mispelled words, underlines/recognizes them and will correct them with some fast clicking of the mouse.
But it is very frustrating.  The spelling and Grammar window opens and shows me a list of words i can choose from, but after a few seconds the window changes by itself. The red mispelled word disapear and the ignore once button now says undo edit. The mispelled word has not changed. I can click undo edit, select the correct word, and hit change to fix it, but i have to do it quickly. The program changes by itself! I can follow these steps for each mispelled word, but it is time consuming.

I have done the following a detect and reapair and a re-install of office.

Any ideas?

It seems like Word thinks you have made a choice already. I would start with Word in safe mode and see if it does the same thing:

1. Go to your Start button and choose Run
2. Type winword /a
3. Press enter

Since it almost sounds like a stuck key, might as well try another keyboard if possible. Otherwise there are some great Word troubleshooting documents here:

Thanks,
I started word in safemode and the problem persists. The keyboard seems to be ok. I dont have another keyboard for this laptop so i cant swap it out. I plugged it into a docking station. The port replicator should disable the keyboard and touchpad. All imput is now through the external USB Key Board and mouse. It is still happening? Weird. I will check out the link you sent but I have been scouring help sites for most of the morning. I would have thought that a reinstall would have fixed it. I noticed however that most of the settings prior to the reboot were back once i re-installed. Is there a way to wipe out all the settings?

The problem with remove/reinstall is that it tries to keep your settings. In your case keeping the settings may be the problem. The link I posted covers how to remove all the cusotmization files, like the normal template and the user settings.

Hope that helps!

The user is a remote sales person, I see how  removing the settings could help. When she is back in town i will give it try.
Thanks
