Can I edit a .mpg in Camtasia Studio 6.0.2. I burned a copy of a friend on the local news with my Hauppauge Win TV recorder and wanted to take the video and put it on a DVD. the WinTV recorded to a .mpg and I thought I could trim the fat so to speak off the video to make it fit. I did not know when they were going to air the segment so I started recording and the file is about 13 gig obviosly won't fit. If Camtasia won't do it can anyone tell me what free tool will. Thank you kindly.

You can edit it in Windows Media Maker from XP or Vista. If it is an AVI should be no problem, but WMM doesn't like MPEG as they don't want to pay for the licence. Then you have to burn it. So if you use something like NERO, which has a confusing amount of software, you'll find it has an editor so you can edit and burn in the same programme. But be careful of NERO, they have about 20 different packages -- very overblown stuff.

Yep, just noticed that your headline stated that it was an mpg so it's either the NERO thing or you'll have to convert it before editing in WMM. So I'd suggest SUPER for the conversion. Try AVI or WMV -- then save at the highest resolution, like 720 x 480 and burn.
