RichFaces datatable not rerendering

I have a RichFaces datatable n my page, I have a delete buttonthat deletes an item from the list, when the user presses the button the Entity is removed from the database and I can see that is happening ok. Even though I have the datatable listed in my reRendered list on the button, the item is not removed from teh list even though it has been removed from teh database. If I tell the list to resort then the item is removed from teh list.  I can see when the delete occurs that the list is being reloaded from the DB and the removed item is not being found so it's not a transaction issue. Since resorting the list by clicking on the column headers does a refresh and does remove the item from the displyed list, it seems that even though the datatable is specified in teh reRender list that the reRendering of the list is not being performed correctly. In fact the datatable does not appear to refresh.

Any ideas?

Thanks!
