Hello -

I have an installation of ESXi 4.0 and would like to create a VM for my Win2k8 Standard server. Can I do that with the CD that was shipped with the server? It came preinstalled, and partitioned.
The CD says "Microsoft Windows Server 2008 Standard - software only".

thanks

Have you tried booting the CD in your VM to install it?
If you are not sure about the VM specs, set it as 512MB ram with at least 10GB space
There is no harm on trying to install any OS in a VM
If it doesnt work, forget it and download a working win2k8 iso somewhere in internet

You need to go into the VM BIOS, then set your VM to boot from CD
Just like a physicsal machine, VM will have BIOS as well
There is a check box to force the VM to go into BIOS on start
