window.focus() not working with firefox.works fine in IE6

i am trying to set focus using window.focus().but this doesnt work in Firefox.
i also tried self.focus()
and  if (self.focus)
        {
            self.focus();
        };
but its of no use.everything works fine with IE6 but not FF.
Please help.

I have got the solution for my problem.
It sounds silly but it took long time for me to figure it out.

We need to do the brower settings.
In FF, just go to Tools--> Options -->Content Tab --> Advanced option infront of Enable Javascript checkbox
Check "Raise or lower windows" and thats it you are done.
