Service pack updates

I have a win2k03 blade server being used as a DNS server.  It also serves to monitor the remaining 6  blades in a M1000e enclosure.  So it rund CMC and EMC Software.  It currently has SP1.  I'm afraind to update to SP2 because as I remember from Win2000 server, this meant that certian things may have to be reinstalled.  Does this still apply?  Do I run the risk of overwriting my installations when I update my server.

Do you have info on how to set up a effective patch management system to keep my server secure?

This question also applies to the remaing blades which have RHEL 5.3.  What is the effect of updating/patching on installed software?

Thanks

i don't see serious problems of updating W2K3 SP1 with SP2.

however, two things are *always* recommended: 1. read the doc, 2. make the backup.

please see the relevant MS official documentation below.

W2K SP2? not sure... anyway, W2K3 and W2K8 are the OS for today... :-))

hope it helps,
