Sounds like the file assosiattions for executable files has become corrupted. Can you run other exe files?

Check the registry under
HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/App Paths/setup.exe

is there anythign that calls setup.exe under windows\system32. From what I am reading you can delete that registry entry as it is incorrectly calling the wrong setup. Of course be very careful when editing the registry and backup in advance. No liabiltiy is accepted for any issues caused.

try downloading each of the dirver files directly. They should download as .exe files which should run through fine. http://support.dell.com/. go to the drivers and download section, input the service tag on the back of your machine and download each of the files individually.

Also, can you send me a screenshot of the error that appears when you double clcik on the exe. if you hit the print screen key it shoudl copy your screen to the keyboard and then you can paste the screenshot into an application like wordpad or mspaint.

yea i did but its fine, im pretty sure its because when i download the driver, its trying to install from the xserv server that they have, and obviously without a network driver i cannot verify the server that its trying to connect to

I dont understand what you mean by Xserv server. When I use download manager it downloads a copy of the file to my local box and the file executes from there. Maybe you are using a different version of the download manager to me.(I think the software only came out at the start of this month). when I use it I can click on open folder and execute it direclty from my local drive.

I think dell's download manager is messing with your downloads. Try uninstalling that from the control panel and then downloading the file again. when you download it shoudl prompt you whether you want to use download manager or download directly. choose to download directly and then it should download as a straight executable.

Hello,
I want to thank everyone for their feedback in relation to this new functionality. I would like to address some of the points you have made to help improve the experience you are having. The Driver Download Manager has been developed to enhance the process of downloading files from Support.Dell.com. However, it is not compulsory.

When you first try to download a file you will be presented with a pop up page displaying 2 options. Download via Driver Download Manager or Download via Internet Browser. If you choose the second option your files will be downloaded as per normal.
If you happened to choose the first option for the Driver Download Manager and you no longer wish to use it. It can be removed via Add Remove programs in Windows. To enable the pop up page again to view the two options as above please empty your cookies

If you are using Firefox as your Internet Browser you may encounter the following dialogue box when attempting to install it.

This is due to the fact you do not have the right version of .NET installed. To use the Driver Download Manager with Firefox you must have Microsoft .NET 3.5 Service Pack 1 installed, you can download it from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=ab99342f-5d1a-413d-8319-81da479ab0d7&displaylang=en
You must also have Microsoft .NET Assistant version 1.1 installed which can be downloaded from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=cecc62dc-96a7-4657-af91-6383ba034eab

Please also refer to the Driver Download Manager FAQ page for more information. Its accessible via help icon on the top right of the Driver Download Manager application or you can click http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/downloads/en/downloads_faq?c=us&l=en&s=gen

Again, thank you for your feedback. We will continue to work towards improving your experience of downloading files from Support.Dell.com

Rgds,
