Contacts Hidden in Windows Live Messenger v14

Afternoon!  I'm having an unusual issue with windows live messenger.  What's happening is whenever I have a user log into messenger; it'll come up ok, but will show an empty contact list even if the user has contacts associated with their account on the computer.  If I go into the options menu and choose to create a category, it'll list out all the contacts, so it recognizes that they are there, but still won't bring them up on the home screen.  Any ideas?

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Apparently this is a known issue and Microsoft is working on a solution.
I found a possible corrective measure here.
