We currently get source code from our vendor who is creating software for us.  every month they send us source code for the new version with all the corrections.  what is happening is that they fix one thing and break another.  we would like to know if there is something out there that can look at the whole vbproj and compare it to the previous versions vbproj.  they claim that they dont make changes to the things that they break so we wnat to make sure that is corect. Thanks

Interesting. Of course, there are hundreds of file comparison utilities out there. You could do a quick search, looking for something that can diff entire folder structures (recursive).

You could also get pretty cleaver and implement version control on your end. A typical update scenario might be something like:

1. checkout entire project.
2. overwrite disk folder structure with that from vendor.
3. do a recursive "add new" to catch new files vendor added
4. do a recursive checkin to check everything back in, instructing vc to discard unchanged files (undo checkout).

You could then use the version control's reporting capabilities to show in excrutiating detail what was changed. This has the side benefit of being able to keep copies of every change since the day you added the project vc.
