Attachments missing file extension in Outlook 2007

With a PC running XP SP3 with Outlook 2007 and Excel 2007:

When they email a spreadsheet directly from excel, the recipients receive the email with the attachment missing the extension (.xlsx or .xls).  When they try to open the email, they are prompted with the "open with program" screen.

Any ideas?

Are all users receiving the emails running Office 2007? If not they will need the compatibility pack.

Also it could be the mail server blocking that file extention.

All end users are either running 2007 or they have the compadibilty pack.

I assume all office service packs are installed?
My test of this worked fine through both exchange 2003 and 2007.

Appears it may be been something with temporary files.  Thank you for your help.

I am experiencing this problem too and after a good look over Google have found no solutions - I do hope you will have the time to detail what you found to be the problem and solution vis a vis your temporary files.
