How easy or hard to create Excel table from SQL DB

How hard or easy is it to ceate an excel file from within SQL Server?

I am an Access developer working with others who own a SQL Server 2005 database.  They need to send me information from that database from time to time.  I am told they can send it to me in CSV format, it would be better on my end if I got in in an Excel format.

Is it reasonable to ask them to send it to me in that format?  Any harder for them to do that than to send it to me in CSV?

Thank you

SQL server will not directly export to .xls or .xlsx

So the folks with the SQL server would have to export to .csv then open it in excel (or create an automated process to do so), and save it as excel, then send it to you.

.csv files are usually directly opened by excel.  If they send you a .csv and you double click on it it'll open.   Also .csv's can be directly opened by access.
