I would like to implement a web sharing soluction that give clients the oppertunity to login into a secure website and upload/download files.  I would like for each client to have their own login credentials and get alerts when a new file is uploaded and ready for them to download.

Any ideas

Sounds like you want Sharepoint or you will need to write a custom application to do this.  There is no built in functionality for email notification of new files in IIS.

I know Sharepoint can be used to set up docuent libraries which can be used to store pretty much any kind of file and you can also set up subscriptions so you can be notified of changes.

As far as canned FTP products - this would require FTP or WebDAV and access to some sort of SMTP service as well for sending email notifications.

I am not aware of anything off the top of my head designed to do this, but then I stick pretty much to the web and FTP servers that are part of IIS - Sharepoint runs on top of these which is why I know a little about it.
