Link Text to InDesign Document

I am creating two variations of an InDesign file that would need to be updated regularly. The difference between the two variations is the layout orientation (portrait vs. landscape). The content for both files would be the same.

I would like to avoid having to update text individually in both files every time changes are made. I am looking for a way to link text from an InDesign document to another (or another file format such as Word or Excel), so that I only have to make the updates in one place.

I know that there is an option to place text as a link, but that would need to come from a separate file. I am not looking to link a large chunk of text, but many small ones. It would be impractical to save them all as separate files.

Is there a way to do this? I'm thinking of a solution similar to MS Excel's Paste Link function...

I don't think there is an easy way to do this.
If this is something needed for the long haul, you might wan't to look at scripting updates from a single file. Then it would only be necessary to run script to update document.
Good Luck

Thanks for the response. I've been looking around further and it doesn't seem there is an easy solution to my problem. A script would be too complicated, so I will just have to copy and paste everything...
