IBM - tape drive test

I have a IBM DDS gen5 backup drive, that has lately failed the backup. Have tried with cleaning tape and with hole new tapes, but still said that there are read/write errors

Is there any tape software to test this IBM device. Sony has the "sony tape tool" where you can test the tape backup drive. Does IBM has something like that, so I can be sure that the drive has an error.

Below is the link where you can download tape tools for IBM drives

Try to perform long write and long read test to confirm the state of the drive

I found a diagnostic application for this drive. It every time reports OK besides the "clean tape" that is marked critical.
A whole new cleaning tape is being used several times, but still it can not mark is as cleaned. Laters firmware and drivers have been installed

how are normal tapes shown.
Did we try to run a long write test and long read test on the drive with a blank tape

try doing that and if that reports fine then insert the cleaning tape in the drive and try to run cleaning on the tape drive and see if that will clean the drive or not

if everything comes fine then we need to check wtih  NTbackup and restore

are you using any other software for backups or just NT backup
