Unable to find the plugin that handles this media type. Dreamweaver looks in both the "Configurations/Plugins" folder, and the plugins folder for each of your installed browsers.

I'm using Dreamweaver CS4 and trying to embed a Flash movie.  When I click play on the properties tab the following error message comes up:

Unable to find the plugin that handles this media type. Dreamweaver looks in both the "Configurations/Plugins" folder, and the plugins folder for each of your installed browsers.

When I try to preview the page on both IE and Firefox the movie doesn't show up.

Any ideas?

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Hi gabrodri,

>> When I click play on the properties tab

Do you know the old joke?  A guy goes to a doctor and says "Doc, my arm hurts when I do this."  The doctor looks at him and says "Don't do that."

Similar situation.  You probably don't want to try and play the FLV from within Dreamweaver.  Design View is not a browser and it has all kinds of problems trying to play media.

>> When I try to preview the page on both IE and Firefox the movie doesn't show up.

Now, this is a different story.  Are you previewing locally or on a server?  Have you installed the latest version of the Flash player from Adobe.com?

Can we see the page code?

Are you previewing from a local server or just opening the page in the browser using file:\\\ ?

Nope.  You serve SWF over the web, not FLA.
