I have a client who's Firefox Browser keeps resetting to:

file:///C:/Program Files/Mozilla Firefox/

He is running the most recent version of Firefox (3.5) on Windows XP

Here are the things that I already tried:

1.  changed homepage in options-->this works the first time and then resets back to file:///etc..after restart
2.  uninstalled and reinstalled --> did not work
3.  changed homepage to blank -->did not work
4.  started in Firefox in safe mode (start-->run--> firefox -safe-mode) --> this works
5.  OK so i thought if safe mode works there's got to be some sort of add-on doing this, so I disabled every single add-on, plug-in, etc..-->did not work
6.  I tried making changed to user.js and pref.js file as instructed on this webpage: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=538711&start=0&st=0&sk=t&sd=a
and this did not work.
7.  I've ran virus scans and spyware scans and it came back clean.

Not sure what else to do from here.  Any and all suggestions would help.  Thanks!

jmarti, what happens if you create a new Profile for him to test out  a few times?

You have almost made it through the standard diagnostics with Safe Mode, but you may have to go a few steps further, including a new profile

9.5 times out of 10, ultimately a Clean Install will fix Firefox.
During the uninstall I actually deleted the entire Mozilla folder which contained the profile, so this essentially created a new profile upon re-install but that did not fix it.  I put this on hold.  I'll reward you the points since you are the only one that commented.  Thanks!

jmarti80,
I appreciate that, but deleting the Firefox Program Folder does NOT delete the Profile.  Mozilla was smart enough to know that some people like to keep their Preferences and settings AWAY from their Program files.

The actual default location of the Profile Folder for Firefox on Win XP is
     C:\Documents and Settings\<Windows login/user name>\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile folder>

The Application Data folder is a hidden folder; to show hidden folders, open Windows Explorer and choose "Tools ’ Folder Options ’ View (tab) ’ Show hidden files and folders".

One other thing that occurred to me.
Is there security software like Spybot Search & Destroy, or SuperantiSpyware, which has options to LOCK the home page?

Another thing to do, open her Firefox, go to a new tab, type
about:config
and hit enter
in new tab or window there will be a Filter line for input.
Paste
browser.startup.homepage
into it and see what the Value is set for.  If it's not what you want, try right clicking on it and selecting Modify, or Reset.

Hope some of this helps.
