Try booting with a traditional boot CD (Bart's PE or Knoppix) and see if you can see your hard drive properly. The hard drive may be OK and corrupted (reinstall required) or NOT OK (replacement required). ... Thinkpads_User

I have been able to boot the pc to the recovery pt using the dvd from there I can open cmd and cd to the C:\ I can see all of the directories and files, but I have been unable to access repair for the drive. I realize now that the OS is Vista ultimate and my dvd is vista home could this be the issue? MS is just about f'd up enough to create diff repair structures for the various ver of the same OS so I would not be suprised at all.

It appears that your hard drive is OK (not clear from this test if there may be some errors). So if you wish to attempt a repair, you need the same OS CD as OS installed on the computer. That is the issue you are facing here. .... Thinkpads_User
