how to change from local to internet (vista)
i have a hp laptop with vista, but i can't connect to the internet, the netwok connection read access: local only. what do i need to change this

Did you disable, then re-enable the network adaptor?

Does your environment include a router / firewall that allocates IP Addresses via DHCP? yes
Are you trying to connect to the network Wirelessly or with a LAN cable? both
Is your network card set to Automatically Obtain IP and DNS settings? yes
Do you know that your internet connection is working? yes
Can you ping the router? yes
Can you ping www.microsoft.com no
Have you got a firewall installed on your laptop? yes mcafee
If you have got a firewall installed - is it enabled? yes
Are you trying to connect to the network Wirelessly or with a LAN cable? both

You gotta love those bits of firewall software - That's one reason why I never use them!!
