I have two Cisco switches that I would like to configure with two trunk links using Etherchannel. I would like to achieve 2 gigs of bandwidth between the switches.

Switch1 is a Cisco 2960G
The ports I would like to use are G0/47 G0/48

Switch2 is a Cisco 3550
The ports I would like to use are G0/1 G0/2

Both switches have default configuration. What is the best way to configure these switches to do this?

You should take a look at this doc from Cisco, it might help you understand what goes behind the config, rather than me just telling you exactly what it is

Here's an example. Add switchport trunk if you have multiple VLANs,

Switch#1:

interface G0/47
port group 1 distribution destination
!
interface G0/48
port group 1 distribution destination
!

.... and on Switch#2:

interface G0/1
port group 1 distribution destination
!
interface G0/2
port group 1 distribution destination
!

First thing to remember about etherchannel is that ALL the interfaces must be similarly configured. If one interface is an access port in VLAN 7, then all the other interfaces in the etherchannel group must be access ports in VLAN7.

If one interface is an 802.1q trunk port with a native VLAN of 1 with only VLANs 1-10 allowed, then all the other interfaces must be the same.

The commands below will create the etherchannel but make sure that all other parameters are the same for the two interfaces on each switch.

Switch 1
int range g0/47 -48
 channel-group 1 mode desirable

Switch 2
int range G0/1 -2
 switchport
 channel-group 1 mode desirable
