cisco asa 5505 ping delay

anarine used Ask the Experts™
I configured a cisco asa 5505 device.
It works fine. The inside interface has ip

But when I ping the inside interface from a laptop connected directly
to the device, I get a delay of 3ms.

Reply from bytes=32 time=3ms TTL=255
Reply from bytes=32 time=4ms TTL=255
Reply from bytes=32 time=3ms TTL=255

Is this normal  ? I would expect it to be LAN speed 0ms.
The ASDM gui takes very long to connect to the device as well.

It would usually take 1ms for a response. Are the ports hard coded with speed and duplex? Is there a lot of traffic going through the ASA?

No only the laptop is connected to the ASA device. I tried all the ports but keep getting
3ms ping delay.

Please note that the only changes I made to the default out of the box config was the nat and telnet statements:

global (outside) 1 interface
nat (inside) 1
route outside 1
telnet inside

everything else is default config that came with the device.
Apparently the problem is with the laptop I am using.
I connected a desktop pc to the device and got faster ping times
