Hi I am new to using vmware and would like to add a new virtual hard drive to my server 2008 machine. I go through the motions of adding the drive in vsphere and it shows in there, but when i log onto the machine i can't see it in windows explorer.

Where am i going wrong?

Thanks
Mick

You need to go to disk management to format and import the new drive before it will show up.

right click on computer and go to manage -> browse to the disk management section -> format the drive

Did you attach the drive to a SCSI node...1.x? This will add the additional SCSI adapter so the VM knows it's there.
