How to change the font size of the start button in XP

Hi there. Lovely day here in cumbria, england. Hope yours is to. :-)

I have changed the majority of the systems fonts and the text on the start button. I have been using a resourse utility. I want to change the font and font size of the new text i have entered for the start button. I have so far been unsuccessfull.

If you are wondering why i want to do this then i'll explain. I have a Scottish friend. I have been changing window title text and popup box text to match the text in the document  'Windies Twa Thoosan - Weegie edition'  seen here - http://www.glasgowsurvival.co.uk/belters/windies.doc

If you know any scottish people then you will see why I am doing this. Just for a bit of fun.

I have read many posts on changing the start button text and font but none of them have managed to change the actual font and size.

Any ideas guys?

Many thanks in advance.

P.S. Files edited so far include, Explorer.exe and Luna.msstyles. The 'Shell' registry entries have also been edited.

Hi jcimarron,

Thanks for your suggestions.

Unless I'm mistaken the eldergeek method only changes the text, not the font or font size. Also the others are applications and still wont change the actual font or font size of the text for the start button. I'm sorry If I did not make myself clear in my post. I really want to be able to get this done by editing the registry, using resourse hacker or any other way of modifying the main core of XP.

Any other ideas? :-)

Sorry, I mis-read your post.

Tclock is a nice utility but so far as I can tell does not make a permanent change to the system. You can have tclock to run on startup but I want to do this without using a utility like that. Is there no way I can do this by using resourse hacker? On the trap17 post someone says use the 'sysedit' command to make changes to the win.ini. I do not know how to start making changes to the win.ini and resourse hacker will not open win.ini.

If I have to use tclock I suppose that will do but I really want to do this without using an app that has to run 100% of the time.

Thanks again for your time jcimarron.
Here is a screenshot of what I have so far done using resourse hacker.

As you can see the font makes the start button extra long! LOL!

icimarron,

You have been very helpful. You are correct, the soloution is very hard to find. I'm sure the answer lies within resource hacker or win.ini somewhere. You are a star for even trying to help!! I am using Tclock which is working ok at the moment. The only problem I have is:- I have selected a start button background from the luna metalic theme and this combined with the text is the original size of the start button. However I have two tiny purple/violet/pink little triangles at the top and bottom right of the button. (see attatched screenshot). Ok, nothing is final at this stage but if you can help remove these annoying triangles you can have all the points anyway :-)

Regards,

Andrew.
