Unable to install Dynamics CRM 4.0 - ...ProvisionBusinessAction failed

I am trying to install Dynamics CRM 4.0 on a win2003 server machine. AD and SQL2005 are in two separate servers in the same domain. There is only one DC (although one has been forcefully removed, also performing metadata cleanup).
Everything checks fine, I used dcdiag and netdiag in all three machines finding nothing.
Dynamics 4.0 CRM installation runs almost to the end (at least I think), and then quits with this error in the log file.

"Install exception.System.Exception: Action Microsoft.Crm.Setup.Server.ProvisionBusinessAction failed. ---> System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x8007202B): A referral was returned from the server."

I have googled around for some time finding nothing conclusive

I finally managed to install, by reinstalling the Dynamics machine (win 2003 server) and the SQL machine (win 2003 server), and then cleaning up the AD DNS.
It is a test environment with VMWare and I understand is not supported. Also machine specifications were set to "minimum".
About Active Directory, I had the AD machine with multiple IP addresses, and I switched back to only one before installing.
About your questions:
- language is english
- key is checking fine in registration (deployment manager)
- pre-requisites were met (but the virtual machines were running with only 512MB RAM)
I will now drop this installation altogether, thanks anyway, and sorry for not being more precise about my testing environment (I was getting a bit frustrated...)
