How to install Cannon mx310 print driver in Vista?
trouble shooting a Vista desktop that will not allow the Print driver/device to be installed. It's a Canon MX310 multi purpose printer. I went to Canon's site and downloaded the driver/exe. I logged in with the admin account, ran the exe and to the point where it tells me to plug in and turn on the printer. Press next and wait about 20-30 mins for it to come back and tell me it fails.
Is there a trick with installing print drivers in Vista? This is not that old of a printer.

can you unplug it, reinstall and connect and see what happen?
make sure you "run as administrator" when installing this if you have UAC turned on

Been unpluging and re-install 3 times already. Last two times as the admin account.

have you tried a different usb port? Does vista recongize that new hardware has been plugged in to the computer? If it doesn't have you tried a new usb cable.

Installed on a slower Laptop running Vista with no problem. Installed the Canon drivers as instructed, then pluged in the printer and the device was installed.
Back at the original PC, it bascally just hangs at the part will I plug the Printer in. Gets into the Installing Device Driver stauts update bar for 30 minutes and then comes back with an error and to try again.

New profile no good, as I think that is the issue. I noticed I ddi not see the user accounts. Called HP and the restore disk was incomcplete as well so I couldn't even do a windows repair install that is recommended to fix that issue. So I was able to return PC, get exact replacement and this time Print driver installed in a snap.
