Trying to reload Operating system on Lenovo z61m

I have a Lenovo z61m where the 80 gigabyte Hitachi hard drive failed.  I have put in a new Toshiba 160 gigabyte hard drive.  The BIOS sees the new hard drive, however when I go to load the Windows XP from the original CD setup begins to load files.  I get to the point where "Setup is starting Windows, which brings me to the "Welcome to Setup" screen.  When I press ENTER to "set up Windows now" I receive the error of:  Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer.  Make sure any hard disk drives are powered on and properly connected....Setup can not continue.  To quit Setup, press F3."

BIOS  is Version 2.14 and the CPU is 1.66GHz with 2048MB of memory installed.

This is because XP installation CD does not support SATA, you will have to use F6 during installation to add sata controller drivers so XP install will pick the drive and continue installation.
Most people will slipstream XP to add drivers first using nLite .... But check in bios and try to disable AHCI if there is such option and try again see if it helps.

Thanks Punky.  Funny, but I was able to reinstall on a Dell machine when I tried this before a month or so back.  I will try what you suggest.  I tried disabling AHCI and went into compatiobility mode, not luck.  WHen do I hit "F6" to get the SATA drivers installed?
Commented:
At very begin state of installation you should see that option appears in bottom ...
You will have to get the drivers for sata controller from IBM/Lenovo website, and you will have also the usb floppy drive (which I guess your system wont have it).
Get drivers:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-70477
If usse nLite for slipstream:

>Funny, but I was able to reinstall on a Dell machine when I tried this before a month or so back.

If you were using the OEM CD from Dell, on a Dell machine with SATA, the drivers would have been slipstreamed into the installation CD.

If your Lenovo came with SATA hardware, your valid OEM CD should have the proper hardware drivers.

Most common complaints come from using a pirated install CD that does not have the OEM drivers...or using the OEM CD from a different machine.

Punky, I downloaded the driver, however when I boot the system, it shows for RAID controllers, and not what is displayed on the web site.  I tried the ones listed to only get a blue screen.  Any idea if this may be the wrong driver posted on their web site?

Is there option in bios that you can disable AHCI?

Thanks.  I will try and disable AHCI, but none of the options are the ones that come up.  They are all for RAID Controllers.  I'm wondering if the site has the wrong download on it.  I can check with them.
