Unplugging SCSI devices - settle an arguement!

If I unplug an external SCSI device whilst the system is running, will it (or could it) cause damage to the the SCSI host adapter or potentially other components in the Server?

Dell Poweredge 4600 with aic7xxx controller. Redhat Linux Ent ES v3.

YES it can cause damage.

Both the Host adapter and attatched device need to be "hot swap/plug" compatible.
