Problem telnet port 25 Exchange 2007

KrageroData used Ask the Experts™
Have just installed Exchange 2007 SP1 on Windows Server 2008 SP2. Have used defalut configuration. Have enabled Anonymous access on Default Hub Transport and created a Send connector for my ISP. I am now testing telet from my internal network (have also tested external after forwarding port 25) but cannot connect. Have turned off firewall, but same problem. No problem to ping the address on the Exhchange server.

What am I missing?

let's try from a command prompt the following:

netstat -an | findstr LISTENING

You should have a list like this:

  TCP                LISTENING
  TCP                LISTENING
  TCP                LISTENING
  TCP               LISTENING
  TCP               LISTENING

(etc. etc.)

One of those lines should read:
  TCP                LISTENING

The first could insted be one of the ip addresses of your server, if you specified an interface on which to listen instead of listen to anything.
If you've nothing listening on port 25, then the default hub transport is not running, or the receive connector is not properly configured. If something is instead listening on port 25 then try to telnet from the server itself:

telnet localhost 25 (or telnet <IP as showed by netstat> 25)

this should work no matter what. If that's not working either, could be some antivirus package who's trying to intercept the smpt connection that's not working properly!
