Can I add a 2nd disk and make this RAID1

I have a server that has OS failure and need to rebuild it.  What I would like to do for speed is to rebuild it on 1 disk as I  need to get another, then add the 2nd disk later and configure them both to be RAID1 at that time.

Is this possible?

Probably, but without you telling us what OS (for software mirroring) or controller (for hardware mirroring) we can only guess.

Sorry.

The OS is SBS2k3 and the server is a HP Proliant ML350 with Hot plugable SCSI Drives

The RAID controller is HP Smart Array 641.

In that case you can since the controller supports RAID level migration.

Create your initial array with one disk in it and create a logical disk using RAID 0* and then when you get the other disk add it to the array using the ACU, then highlight the logical disk and change RAID level will be an option in the right hand pane. Do the install using SmartStart, then you will have the ACU installed by default.

*Technically one disk isn't RAID 0 but the ACU calls it that.
