I intend to use this deployment procedure  http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc160717.aspx#active_directory in a + 50 computer environment. Apparently, that approach has presented issues though.

What would be the most efficient way to 1) verify if the pre-required updates are installed or not? If not, how would I take action? 2) deploy the .net framework 3.5 on computers using AD GPOs

.NET 3.5 is now available via Windows Update - KB951847.

May I suggest that you employ WSUS to distribute this and other updates? You can centrally manage and approve all updates to groups of machine on your network.

Have a read of this: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc708519(WS.10).aspx

The article you linked was written before 3.5 was available as an update, and judging by the comments at the bottom I'd steer clear!

Have a read of this also, from MS referring to the release via WSUS earlier this year: http://blogs.technet.com/wsus/archive/2009/05/07/net-framework-3-5-service-pack-1-sp1-and-family-update-package-revisions-coming-soon.aspx

I don't have time to configure WSUS right now. I created a bat file a configured a group policy. Everything seems right, except it won't launch.
