Autostart SMTP in Windows Server 2008 (IIS 6)

Hi experts,

I am still learning my way around Server 2008 and have successfully got a Virtual SMTP Server up and running in IIS 6.0 on our new server. It works fine with out applications so far. One issue I am having is I can not figure out how to get this to automatically run on system startup. Every time the server is restarted, I have to remote in, open IIS 6, and manually start the SMTP server.

Is there a way to automate this? I didn't see anything in the Services list. Thanks in advance for the assistance.

First, Server 2008 should be running IIS 7 be default.  I state this because configuration and options are different in these versions.

So, onto the problem at hand.

SMTP should be installed as a service at the machine level, this is where you would set the startup type.
If you open the Servcice tool in Control Panel you should be able to scroll down and find a reference for MS SMTP (or something like that).  Check and change the startup type on the service; it sounds like it is currently set for Manual.
