Watchguard Firebox - PDF hang up (WebBlocker)

I have a watchguard firebox which on which I recently enabled the Webblocker. All blocking settings seem to be working correctly except there is an issue with downloading pdf's inside a browser.

If a user right clicks the pdf link they are able to download and then view.  Or if I log into a bypass account which has a higher precedent order than the http-proxy, https-proxy filters it also downloads fine.  The pdf download quits silently with no mention of the WebBlocker rule blocking the download.  I see nothing in the settings of the various WebBlocker rules  (Box default, http-proxy, https-proxy) which would suggest that pdfs are being blocked.

I have fixed all previous errors by focusing in on the blocking message sent from the Firebox.  I am stumped on this one.

Normally behavior seen by you would not be webblocker but HTTP proxy; you might have disabled Java applets/active X which might be resulting in this behavior.

Do you get any logs in traffic monitor which can explain the reason.

In the HTTP-proxy rule that this user falls into, check the Content Types under HTTP Response in the proxy action. See if application/pdf is listed. If it isn't, click the Predefined button and choose it from the list. If it is listed, make sure the action to take is allow. Also check the rules and actions to take under Body Content Types.

application/pdf was already allowed but by looking at the block logs I found the item needed.


The pdf's no longer stop mid-download.
