I have rebuilt a HP Proliant ML 350 server with SCSI hot plugable disks and have another SCSI disk that has data on it that is showing up as not initialised.

I have added this in the disk in the configuration but disk manager is not recognising it.

What if you right click the disk in Disk Manager and click initialize???

I was concerned about initialising as I thought this would format the disk.  Am i wrong?  (Hope I am)

Commented:
You are :)
Initialising only writes signature.

wait!

If this disk was a part of an array - you have to see your entire array. Do no try to play with separate disks.

Ok.  I did that and ran through the wizard, asigning a drive letter and choosing not to format.  I cannot access the drive though, it just says this drive is not formatted.

Commented:
Is this a part of an old array?

Author

Commented:
Yes it was.  I rebuilt the server on 1 of the mirrored disks to preserver the other.  Now I am after the ntds folder from the old disk to rebuild active directory.

Commented:
Was it hardware mirror? If so - try to "see" this disk from your array controller. Then probably you will see it in your Windows.

Ok, I've obviously messed up here.

Going forward, the server is now stable again and I would like to add the disk back to the mirror.  I have not broken the mirror or formatted the disk as yet.

Would I be able to just add the disk back into the RAID1 or should I format it first?
Commented:
You can add new disk to existing one and create mirror such way. It's better to format it because it disables potential "mirroring wrong one to right one" issue.
