I need excel to get the excel grid reference colour best matching the pixel color at the x y axis of an image

I will be receiving an image shortly that I need to get the closest matching colour from the excel table of colours and store it. For example, I have a JPG colour chart, that is 800 pixels by 800 pixels, so if the colour at x = 400, and y = 200 closely resembles the orange which in excel is color 46, then I want to place the x axis reference of 400 in cell A1, the y axis reference of 200 in cell B1, and the excel best match color of 46 in cell C1.

I have read various forums, and cannot find anything at this level, there is a great deal with much higher complexity than what I need which utilises processes that I can not understand, and they may run quicker too, but I dont need to redraw the image, simply log the colors. Please help :-)

Hi Jody

You just need a color picker tool
eg http://www.filebuzz.com/fileinfo/22954/Colour_Spy.html

Thanks Gary, but I cant even download it through the firewall, this needs to be a facility i can build through VBA as there are several users who require certain properties from the images to be logged into excel as it will then be reported on for colour variations - so the need to keep it all in excel to distribute to other users is important.

Sorry for the delayed response (swine flu)!
Thanks

Wish you better!
Hope it's not catching thru EE!

Anyway have a look at this:

That i sgenious - its pretty close to what i need and will just have to make a few mods and try and match the selection to the x y reference of the picture after importing it as an oleObject, but that will certainly make the colour matching a lot easier. This is a hard one to complete exactly but i'll get there - if i do i'll add my code - thanks again ;-)
