Unable to finalize Exchange 2007 management tools install

Hey experts;

I'm having a heck of a time figuring this one out. We have a single domain with 7 sites, each with their own DC. Our primary DC runs Server 2008 with an Exchange 2007 install; we also have scattered 2003 and 2000 DCs throughout our organization.

I'm attempting to install the Exchange 2007 System Management tools on a member 2003 server that I intend to use as a BES, but I'm having trouble doing so. When I install the BES, I get a message that MAPI is missing, so I have to install the Exchange 2007 SMT.

However, after installing the tools, when I attempt to finalize configuration, I get the following message:

--------------------------------------------------------
Microsoft Exchange Error
--------------------------------------------------------
The following error(s) were reported while loading topology information:

get-ExchangeServer
Failed
Error:
Could not find any Global Catalog in forest domain.local.

Global catalog not found in forest "domain.local".

get-UMServer
Failed
Error:
Could not find any Global Catalog in forest domain.local.

Global catalog not found in forest "domain.local".

OK

I've verified that the local DC is a GC, and the mail server is a GC as well. I've made the local server's primary DNS point to our mail server as well. I've run dcdiag on both DCs and both pass the advertising test without error. I've logged in with an Enterprise admin account with full Exchange permissions, but the same error occurs.

I'm not quite sure what the issue is. Any thoughts? I need this urgently!

Thanks!

You don't install the Exchange 2007 tools for BES on Exchange 2007 as it doesn't provide the MAPI interface that is required. It sounds like you are confusing the installation instructions for the Exchange 2003 instructions.

What you need to install are the CDO Mapi interface files.
