Does anyone know of an open source Programmable, Communicating Thermostat?

I am looking for a thermostat that has a programmable interface already embedded and is set for communicating via RS232 or RS485. I am trying to find a suitable unit for development of a voice recognition module that would communicate with the thermostat. Open source would be nice but I am also open to the idea of partnering with a suitable thermostat company for the rights and communication variables set.
Thank you all for your time.

There are X-10 thermostats which communicate over the house wiring: http://www.hometech.com/modules/therm.html#RCS

Collandor,
Thank you very much for your answer. Do you know of any that are single piece units. I want to consolidate the apparatus to one small location to facilitate with ease of installation to make more marketable (if this project gets to that point).

Thank you,

Collandor,
Thank you for your information on this subject. I have found that the Proliphix thermostat is perfect but I would like to look into some more models that are similar. Is there anything else you know of that is similar?

To supply more insight as to why I am looking into other thermostats is because I have no knowledge of how to communicate via http. I am used to rs232 serial communication. I would be grateful to get direction on how to start using communication over tcip. Links to tutorials would be acceptable.
Thank you

Did you take a look at my second link?

To communicate over TCP/IP, you need to know socket programming: http://www.prasannatech.net/2008/07/socket-programming-tutorial.html

I had not completed this answer because the owner of the better thermostat has not supplyed the API because and I have no idea if it is something I can really work with. Much more research must go  into this. Thank you for your ideas.
