NIC can't be used after loading BCME driver on HP DL380 G4

After loading EFS-5.790a onto a HP DL380 machine with SCO 5.0.7 on it - the NIC can be loaded using hpnicinstall, & seems to load ok.  An IP address /mask & gateway can be set, however after rebuilding & relinking the kernel, a 'portmapper cannot find <ip address>' warning appears.  Why is this so?? & how do I fix it so the box has a functioning NIC???

No, sorry, no multiple or obsolete entries. In fact the OS tells me it can't see the NIC at all. Netconfig will give me all  the info
Check the contents of /usr/adm/messages.  The MAC address should show along with the IP
If the NIC has changed connect speed, you should power down and do a cold boot.

Hi,

sorry... in this case i believe I'm beyond that... It, the broadcom falls over because of an unsupported feature in SCO ....I have reached the stage where the system recognises the the NIC but after a restart will refuse to boot because of an error .

Latest firmware (HP) hasn't helped..but may  have stumbled upon a solution

This is not abandoned, but I am yet to see a valid solution posted
The correct solution has been to get into the nic & disable the higher functions not supported by SCO....
