DNS will not Start Windows 2003 Server Error 14 not enough storage is available to complete this operation

I'm receiving the following message when I try and Start DNS on a Windows 2003 Server. "error 14 not enough storage is available to complete this operation"  I was installing updates and it looks like the c drive ran out of space and could not complete the installation. File sharing is working, but No Internet browsing because of the DNS service is broken. The system properties screen shows Windows 2003 SP1. If I look at the add remove programs it shows Windows 2003 SP2 is installed. I tried to run the uninstall from add remove programs, for SP2 can not complete. I even tried to reinstall DNS services on Add remove windows components. No luck. There is about 3 gig on the c drive now. I'm currently downloading Server 2003 SP2 to the server now via FTP access. Maybe it will be able to install on top of itself.

Thank you,

How big is your C partition?

ASKER

It's at 2.5Gig now

That would be 2.5Gig free from 25 Gig Partition.
13 gig total partition is enough for your server OS.

I wam going to give you a site to help you manage your boot partition a bit better.
LeeW has a perfect site for this: It explains what you should he recommends removing or moving from the C:\ Partition.

With 2.5 gig free space, I don't think the partition size is your problem:

I have seen this error before and can't remember what caused it. I think it was either the AV program or the Software firewall.

You could try to temporarily disable both of them and see if we can pinpoint the error.

You need to ensure the DNS file is excluded from your virus software so that is not scanned.
Exclude c:\windows\system32\dns and the service should start.
