Dell XPS 710 SATA Drivers for WD3200KSRTL BLUE SCREEN XP INSTALL
I have a Dell XPS 710. Everything is factory installed blocking the video card and, of course, the hard drive. This is a NEW WD3200KSRTL hard drive, and I am attempting to install Windows XP SP3 from a CD. Every time Windows Setup runs, it loads all the files and then says "Setup is Starting Windows" in the status bar. After that, a blue screen error occurs that states:

This is commonly a problem associated with missing SATA drivers. I have already tried an alternate video card and even an alternate hard drive to no avail. Well, unfortunately I have no idea where those drivers are or if they even exist. I do not believe that the Dell website has them available for this machine/motherboard, as the SATA drivers listed are all from companies that are NOT Western Digital. I need help. I need these drivers, or a solution to my problem.

Also, I had a previously loaded OS on this computer (Vista), which worked just fine. I got a new hard drive and I wish to install XP to avoid headaches. I am using the same SATA slot as I used with the working hard drive.

And just to add some detail, the BIOS is in fact the most recent version that has been released by Dell.

You need the driver for the motherboards sata controller not the hard drive. Here's the latest chipset and sata drivers from Nvidia(you could also use the driver CheVive92 posted). I would extract the drivers and slipstream the sata driver onto a xp cd using nlite(www.nliteos.com) or copy the drivers to a floppy disk and use f6 during the xp setup to install the drivers(if you don't have a floppy nlite is the best option).

I have faced similar situations and errors during my xp and windows 2003 server installations on both desktops and laptops, and I 80% of the times resolve this problem by adjusting the native sata controller/harddrive compatibility mode in BIOS to compatibility or IDE. and that works
the alternative is whilest installing windows xp press F6 when it prompts in the beginning for third party sata drivers (you will need a floppy drive to do this)

Did you check if your HDD is detected on the Bios,
Also consider checking with Dell if your new HDD is supported on your dell XPS 710 - Some versions of Dell bios does not allow non dell products (if you dont purchase from dell).

Ok, I was able to slipstream the driver linked from the Dell website into my SP3 install CD.
Unfortunately, now when setup finishes copying and Windows is actually being installed, the Install freezes at "Installing Devices" (34 Minutes remaining). Is this a different issue all together, or could it be the same problem biting me just a little bit later?

This is usually a different issue try unplugging all external devices, only leave the mouse, keyboard and monitor attached(and power of course) and see if it still stalls at 34 min.
It's appears you may want to slipstream all the drivers -- those on Dell's site, or those extracted from the nForce 15.25 download -- into your SP3 CD using nlite.
If memory serves, I believe all of the 15.25 drivers (from folders Audio, Awy, Ethernet, IDE, SMBus and SMU) will fit on to a single CD, but that was over 6 weeks ago and that's stretching it for my memory these days....

Never mind my last post. I simply restarted the installation and it was smooth sailing from there. Thank you for all the help! I was going crazy!

OK. New problem! So, I was able to get XP installed and everything is working great! All drivers, etc.
Unfortunately, every time I restart/turn on my computer, an error occurs that says "No Boot Device Available."
I have explored the BIOS, and I have tried putting the boot order with CD first and with SATA first. Neither option fixes the problem. I have switched the SATA cable, which only causes the BIOS to fail to find the hard drive. I have also run the recovery to replace the boot files to no avail.
I don't know what else to do... should I replace the SATA cable?

When you added the SATA drivers to the XPSP3 CD using nLite, did you add both the SATARAID (NVIDIA nForce Storage Controller / NVIDIA RAID Driver) **AND** the SATA_IDE (NVIDIA nForce Storage Controller) drivers? Both of them need to be added via nLite. If both weren't then that may be why you (1) needed to restart the system to complete the installation and (2) are now having problems getting the SATA HDD recognized during boot up.
