Beeping Server
Hi All,

I have a HP Proliant ML 150 G6 Server that beeps 4 times at startup.

The beeps are short beeps not long ones.

The server then boots into Windows SBS 2008 but most of the services are not running.

I've logged in as admin and tried to start the services, but to OS just hangs.

I've contacted HP support, but they dont know, they told me to run an offline diagnostics test, which I'm about to do.

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Thanks in advance,

Melite

Generally a beep code during post indicates a hardware issue. Does the server continue to beep once the OS is loaded?

No the OS loads up OK.

Your comment on hardware got me thinking though.

I was using a USB mouse and keyboard from my IBM server.

I tried the PS/2 keyboard and mouse that came withthe HP server and the beeping stopped, so problem solved.

Thanks for the help!!

Servers are computing devices that are similar to desktop computers in that they have the same basic components, but are significantly different in size, configuration and purpose. Servers are usually accessed over a network, and many run unattended, without a computer monitor, input device, audio hardware or USB interfaces. Many servers do not have a graphical user interface (GUI), and are configured and managed remotely. Servers typically include hardware redundancy such as dual power supplies, RAID disk systems, and ECC memory, along with extensive pre-boot memory testing and verification. Critical components might be hot swappable, and to guard against overheating, servers might have more powerful fans or use water cooling.
