Windows Update error upon system boot

'Unable to call the function "dllinstall" in the file "C:\WINDOWS\System32\webcheck.dll" because that function does not exist or is not exported' is the exact error message I have begun to receive as of this morning.  We have our updates controlled via WSUS 3.0 SP1 on Windows Server 2008 and they are set to run Monday mornings.  Has anyone else experienced this?  I'm finding old instances of the message across the web, but none of which pertain to our network.  All of our workstations are Windows XP SP3 and only a few are experiencing this message.

Yes, that is way outdated information though.
I'm guessing you cant get to the event viewer?

Did you try booting in safe mode?
jsantora83--I am not so sure that the Resoution advice given under WinNT in the reference provided by abraham808 is so "outdated".  You have little to lose by trying it.
Yes, the Event Viewer info would help.  Here is the way to get the most out of Event Viewer.
Event Viewer (Start|Administrative Tools|Event Viewer). Click on "System" in the left panel. Do you see RedBall error icon(s) timestamped at the exact time the problem occurred?   If so, click on the RedBall. The first message will have some data on what the problem is, but usually it is not too easy to understand. Click the blue go.microsoft.com link.  On the next window click the link to send a report to Microsoft.    Another window should open (though it may take some time for the information in the right panel to appear) which may offer some more understandable info and maybe even a solution.

Something simple you could do would be to run SFC /SCANNOW from a command prompt to restore any missing or corrupt XP files.

This could be the solution, http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb759846(VS.85).aspx but I am not sure I fully understand it.  Registering webcheck.dll may be what is needed.
