folder redirection move to new server

I know this has been asked before, but I can't find an answer that makes sense.

I need to move our users home directories to a new server. Folder redirection is set in GP. How do I move everything to the new server without having to have each user re-sync when they log in again?

I read that you can use robocopy to move the files over, but when I do that and log in it still points to the old link and the event log gives me an error about not having the rights to move the my music folder. I have had this issue before where the desktop.ini in my music needs to be delete for the redirection to work, but why is it trying to "copy" anything the files should be there already!

If I delete the my music folder from the old server and log in again, it updates my docs to point to the new server.

What is the right way to do this with the least impact on users?
