The DNS Server was unable to open Active Directory Event ID 4000 Source DNS

The problem started with no one being able to log on to the server. I checked all of the settings, ip etc. Unistalled and reinstalled DNS.When I tried to reconfigure I get the same error. Event ID 4000 in the event log. The configure DNS wizard error is "The Forward lookup zone cannot be added to the server. The specified directory partition does not exist.

Which version of WIndows are you receiving this message on?
Is this a stand-alone DNS ?
Hi Chuku, Is that link related to this issue ? I am just wondering how.
If it's Windows 2000 make sure you have SP4 applied, if you do re-apply it
This process is the same for Windows 2003

You are most likely going to have to reset your secure channel.

Run a netdiag and post results are you getting any other errors in the Event Viewer?
I have no other dc or server on the network. It is the only one. It has been fully updated.
